Alpha Kamara, 24, faces drugs and fleeing charges after the 3 a.m. wreck on Interstate 95 near exit 163 to Lorton, Virginia State Police said.

Troopers first spotted Kamara's Dodge Charger because it had stolen Maryland plates, but when they went to pull him over, Kamara floored it, State Police said. Though, he didn't make it far. Kamara hit a guardrail and crashed into a ditch about two minutes after the chase started, troopers said.

He ran out of the mangled car and left behind a friend in the passenger seat, they said. Troopers caught him a few minutes away.

He was being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, police said. No bond information was available.
